Penguin Biscuits

Today is Penguin Awareness Day, so my bake today is dedicated to my best friend “Pemming”.

I have had Pemming since I was four months old and Father Christmas brought him for my Christmas present. It was love at first sight and we have been together ever since. He fits snuggly under my arm and I can take him anywhere (although due to several “unfortunate incidents” in the past he’s now strictly a house Penguin).

Pemming is always there for me, he always understands how I feel, and he makes me feel secure. He is my emotional support Penguin. Everyone should have one.

Recipe:

  • Butter 6oz
  • Caster Sugar 4oz
  • Plain Flour 8oz
  • Cocoa Powder 3oz

To decorate:

  • Icing sugar
  • Orange food colouring
  • Writing icing

How to make:
Squish the butter and sugar together with a fork until they are creamy.
Mix the flour and cocoa powder together well, and then add it to the creamy butter mixture.

Stir it all together well, then use your hands to squash it all together to make a ball of yummy chocolatey dough.

You need to wrap up your dough and put it in the fridge for an hour.

Roll out your dough and cut out your penguins! 🐧

They need to bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes on 180 degrees.

Once they are cooled you can decorate them! 🙂

Cheese Straws

Happy New Year Bakers!

It’s back to school for me tomorrow, so today I have been making cheese straws to go in my packed lunch. This seemed like a good idea so that just in case I feel a bit wobbly about going back to school (although that hardly ever happens because my school is the best!), I will know that I have one of my favourite lunches in my bag waiting for me.

Recipe:

  • Ready made puff pastry
  • Cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg

How to make:

Roll out your pastry (or you can buy it in sheets which is even quicker).

Grate cheese onto a sheet of baking paper, lay your pastry on top, and squash it all down. This makes the cheese stick to the pastry.

Beat the egg in a bowl, and use a pastry brush to paint it onto the pastry. Grate a little more cheese on top.

Have your grown-up cut the pastry into strips, then twist them into “straws”.

Paint your straws with more egg mixture then bake in the oven on 220 degrees for about 15 minutes,  or until yummy golden brown. 😋

Cheese straws are one of my favourite bakes because they are very quick. Perfect for when I’m feeling extra enthusiastic 😃
