Cheese Straws

Happy New Year Bakers!

It’s back to school for me tomorrow, so today I have been making cheese straws to go in my packed lunch. This seemed like a good idea so that just in case I feel a bit wobbly about going back to school (although that hardly ever happens because my school is the best!), I will know that I have one of my favourite lunches in my bag waiting for me.

Recipe:

  • Ready made puff pastry
  • Cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg

How to make:

Roll out your pastry (or you can buy it in sheets which is even quicker).

Grate cheese onto a sheet of baking paper, lay your pastry on top, and squash it all down. This makes the cheese stick to the pastry.

Beat the egg in a bowl, and use a pastry brush to paint it onto the pastry. Grate a little more cheese on top.

Have your grown-up cut the pastry into strips, then twist them into “straws”.

Paint your straws with more egg mixture then bake in the oven on 220 degrees for about 15 minutes,  or until yummy golden brown. 😋

Cheese straws are one of my favourite bakes because they are very quick. Perfect for when I’m feeling extra enthusiastic 😃
